March is here which means that spring is right around the corner and the sunshine is on its way! As boaters, we wait all winter for temperatures to rise outside so we can go back to our endless surf sets and weekends at the lake, but we also start thinking about all the spring cleaning and chores that need to get done before the fun begins. Before you start stressing about finding the time, check out these steps and you’ll be back on the water in no time.

  1. Get Summerized

First and foremost, make sure that your boat has been properly summerized. A proper summerization ensures that all of your hoses have been reconnected, and that there are no leaks. We also recommend having your impeller replaced each year or at least every 100 hours because they can become brittle after sitting overtime and could potentially cause you to overheat on your first trip out which is the last thing that you want to happen.

     2. Charge Battery

Doing a quick check to make sure your battery is charged will save you from being dead in the water! Turn your battery switch to off whenever you aren’t using the boat to prevent this from happening. Another option is to install a battery charger so that you can make sure that you are always charged even when you’re away from the boat. Ask our service department for more details!

      3. Stabilize Fuel

If your boat has been sitting with fuel in the tank for any extended period of time then it is a good idea to throw some fuel stabilizer in the gas tank. Stabilizer will help prevent corrosion by removing water and overall, improves the running life of your engine.

      4. Check Your Trailer

A lot of times checking your trailer may not be at the top of your to-do list but doing so can definitely save you some hassle down the road. First, have your bearings checked and make sure that they are greased so that you won’t cause any future damage when you tow your boat, always keep an eye on your tire pressure and make sure that each tire is still in good condition. Once everything checks out, it’s time to hook the boat up to the truck, check your lights and hit the lake! After you get the boat off the trailer and park your truck, have a look at the bunks on your trailer in case they need any work done the next time you bring your boat in for maintenance.

      5. Double Check for your Drain Plug

This may seem like an easy one but it can also be easy to overlook when you’re not taking your boat out regularly. Always double check your drain plugs before you take your boat off the trailer.

Summer is just around the corner and the sooner your boat is ready the sooner you can get back to the lake! Call the Waterski America Service Department at (972)221-2377 if you have any more questions about the service or routine maintenance of your boat.
